Tip of the Week Stay Stress Free at Work

Having a tough day at work? Your boss is breathing down your neck? Well, now's the best time to take a break. Here are three simple steps to help you relax at work.

1) Desk exercises: We know you hate the sound of a workout. But these are just simple stretches to get your circulation going and enable your mind to function better.
  • First, give your eyes a break from your computer screen. Keep them closed for a minute or two.
  • Then stretch your neck, move it from side to side as well as backward and forward.
  • Roll your shoulders forward 10 times and then backward.
  • Join your hands and stretch them above your head as far as you can go.
  • Rotate your wrists clockwise 10 times, then counter-clockwise.
  • Do the same for your ankles.
  • Finally stretch your calves. Stand upright and use the back of your chair for support. Then raise yourself on the balls of your feet 10 times. It's great for circulation. Walk around a bit too.

2) Stress relievers: Keep a stress reliever on your desk at work. Fidget, stretch and squeeze toys (eg: a stress ball, hand massager or slinky) work like a charm. When you feel the pressure building simply engage yourself for about five to 10 minutes with the toy and then get back to your work. You'll feel less tense and more able to concentrate on the work at hand.

3) Office humour: There's nothing like a little office humour to cheer you up on days when your dragon boss is breathing down your neck. Log on to sites like killourboss.com, dibert.com and officehumor.com for your daily dose of laughter. You'll find comic strips, jokes and more that will crack you up and lighten up your mood for sure.
