We think that's a combover? Marty Melville/Getty Images Last August, Syfy Channel blog Blastr put together a clever infographic describing the cursed, 73-year-long attempts to bring "The Hobbit" to the big screen. It was already a mess before Peter Jackson climbed on board, but once he got his Kiwi mitts on it, it bounced around from studio to studio, from lawsuit to lawsuit, from country to country. Once he finally grasped control of the project in September 2010 ... a union issue popped up. And then, when they were about ready to at last get going ... Jackson fell ill. It is possible that the Lord Jehovah just does not want a "Hobbit" movie to happen.
But look: Once and for all, it appears that filming on "The Hobbit," at long last, will begin next month. The start date is March 21, in New Zealand, which means you should cancel your vacation there immediately, so as better to avoid the meteor.
The first film will be out in December 2012, with "The Hobbit, Part Two" hitting theaters in December 2013, at which time Jackson will announce plans to film J.R.R. Tokien's short story "Life by Niggle," set for release in October 2034, starring Andrew Garfield as an aged wizard.
