While we are celebrating Holi in India, the ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA team celebrated quite a different Holi. The cast and crew of the film celebrated Tomatina festival of Spain. Just as we celebrate Holi in India by splashing colours on each other, the Spanish celebrate Tomatina, an annual festival, by throwing on each other, ripened tomatoes. A close hand reveals, "ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA has an elaborate scene, with the four stars, Hrithik Roshan, Katrina Kaif, Farhan Akhtar and Abhay Deol taking part in the fun Tomatina festival. FARHAN AKHTAR, HRITHIK ROSHAN, KATRINA KAIF and ABHAY DEOL ON THE SETS OF ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA "The Tomatina was recreated for the shoot of the ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA. It was shot in Bunyol, Valencia, Spain. 16 tons on tomatoes were used for the shoot and they were flown in from Portugal, as the tomatoes in Spain were not ripe enough for the Tomatina. For the scene, 24 tons of tomato puree was used. Unlike Holi, which due to the chemical colours causes pollution, Tomatina is extremely helpful to the fields in Spain, and the waster was thrown into the filed - as it is bio degradable." It turned out to be one of the most expensive Holis ever. As the 16 tons of tomatoes had to flown in from Protugal, it cost the producers of ZINGAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA a whopping one crore rupees. Says Zoya Akhtar, director of ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA, "Tomatina in Spain is a festival closest to our Holi. They play with tomatoes and the world turns red for the day. The energy is infectious and the scene is a visual treat. We had a blast shooting this sequence but it was not all rosy. It was a logistical nightmare for the producer. We shot in the same location where the festival actually takes place and we had to shut the town down. The residents of Bunyol were extremely sweet and in turn they celebrated Tomatina twice last year. Once for Spain, and once for India." Says producer Ritesh Sidhwani, "To recreate the Tomatina festival and make it look authentic, we had to call for some 16 tons for tomatoes from Portugal, as the tomatoes in Spain were not ripe." Well, all we can say is, Aisi Holi na hogi dobara.
