Don't you gush all day when someone compliments how lovely your hair or skin is? Well, it is not just your new conditioner or the mineral foundation that's working its magic but what you put on your plate too. Here's what you should be eating if you want beautiful skin, hair, eyes and smile.

For beautiful hair
For beautiful hair you need protein and iron. "Hair needs protein to grow," says Mumbai-based nutritionist, Maithili Pashtekar. Protein is found in plenty in beans, lentils and lean meat like chicken. Want shiny hair? Load up on beta carotene that will add shine to your tresses. "Good sources of beta carotene are pumpkin, carrots and spinach," says, Mumbai-based nutritionist Naini Setalvad.

For flawless skin

Vitamin C is essential for producing collagen, a component that maintains elasticity of your skin. "Citrus fruits like lemon, oranges and sweet lime are a great source of vitamin C," says Maithili.

For long nails
Love painting your long nails? "Get your daily dose of calcium to make sure they are strong" says Naini. Sesame seeds, leafy vegetables and dry figs are a good source of calcium. Another essential mineral that prevents your nails from going brittle is silicon. "Apples, almonds and peanuts are a good source of silicon," says Maithili.

For sparkling eyes
For beautiful eyes, you need to pile on beta carotene to keep the spark alive. Belonging to the family of B complex vitamins, beta carotene is also essential in keeping your retina healthy. "Carrots, red and yellow peppers are a good source of this vitamin," says Naini.

For strong teeth
Brushing twice everyday is a great way to maintain those pearly whites. But to make sure they stay strong, include foods like milk, cheese and other dairy products. "These are rich in calcium which are essential to keep your teeth strong and prevent decay," says Naini.

Don't forget to include healthy fats from oily fish, lean meat, nuts, ghee and butter and lots of water in your diet to make sure that your body absorbs these nutrients, adds Naini.
