Depp and Isla Fisher are the main voices behind the animated Rango, which made just over 1 million pounds ($1.6 million) to take over pole position from the film that knocked it off the top spot last week, "Battle: Los Angeles."

Snowboarding comedy "Chalet Girl" was new at four with Felicity Jones and Bill Nighy while Matthew McConaughey in "The Lincoln Lawyer" came in at five.
Owen Wilson in extra-marital romp "Hall Pass" slipped one place to six, just above bad-boy gang movie "Anuvahood" which made its debut at seven.
