Mel Gibson Case Handed Over to Prosecutors actor Mel Gibson's extortion claims against his ex-girlfriend for a decision on whether to file criminal charges in the matter Russian-born model and singer Oksana Grigorieva, who is the mother of Gibson's infant daughter

LOS ANGELES Feb 16 (Reuters) - Investigators on Wednesday gave prosecutors all the evidence of actor Mel Gibson's extortion claims against his ex-girlfriend for a decision on whether to file criminal charges in the matter.

A spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney said sheriffs had given prosecutors the case and "we will review it." No further details were available.

The extortion claims stem from a long and bitter custody battle between the Oscar-winning Braveheart actor and director, and Russian-born model and singer Oksana Grigorieva, who is the mother of Gibson's infant daughter.

Gibson and Grigorieva split last year and in July, celebrity website Radaronline.com published audiotapes of a man, widely-believed to be Gibson, using racial and sexist slurs during a rant at Grigorieva.

The actor and director whose other work includes The Passion of the Christ, took his extortion claims to Los Angeles County sheriffs, who launched an investigation.

Grigorieva in turn made allegations of domestic violence against Gibson.

The District Attorney will decide whether to press charges on both the extortion and domestic violence claims.
