how to get on with the boss,i want to get on with boss,i want good boss Get Back in Your Boss Good Books

He trusted you with an assignment and you botched it. In an instant, all your achievements went up in smoke. Naturally, you don't know how to face your boss and make things right. But lucky for you, we got you some handy tips to get back in his good books. (And thankfully, grovelling is not one of them!)

1) Take the blame.

It's easy to pass the buck and blame another colleague. But don't. It could only make the situation worse. Admit you made a mistake and ask your boss for his advice on how to do it right the next time. This way you won't screw up again and you'll pamper his ego a little too. Of course, you'll have to brace yourself for a lengthy lecture but in the end it'll be worth it.

2) Be on your best behaviour.
Your boss probably doesn't want to trust you with those big-ticket projects so you'll have to look for another way to prove yourself. The smartest thing to do would be to stay out of his way and be committed to your job. Arrive before him and leave just after. Take shorter lunch breaks and avoid standing around the water-cooler gossiping. And lastly, don't use office time for anything but work (read: no facebook, youtube, games or excess surfing). Bottom line: Don't give him a chance to pick on you!

3) Slip in a compliment.

We're not suggesting you suck up to your boss. That's just cheap. So what exactly must you do? Just be genuine. Don't praise him unnecessarily or he'll see through you and that could really earn his wrath. Restrict your admiration to his work rather than his dressing sense. Also be specific with your compliments so you don't come across as flaky. Instead of telling him you like his presentation skills, why not tell him that you liked the way he brought out 'abc' point?

4) Be the people's favourite.

Spend extra time updating yourself about your profession. Learn new skills that might be useful on the job. Then modestly share your new-found knowledge and display your skills among your colleagues. The idea is to win them over. When the boss sees you as a team player that people can rely on, you'll be back in his good graces. P.S. Be careful not to come off as a show-off or it'll backfire.

5) Do a kick a** job!

When he finally trusts you again, make sure not to mess it up. Pick your assignment with care. Make sure it's a task that gets you maximum visibility without being the toughest. Now here's how to handle the new task. Do adequate research and ask a senior for some guidance too. Then divide it into a number of smaller tasks and assign a deadline to each of them to make sure it gets done on time. Go the extra mile to make it a huge success!
