How to Have a Great Big Holi Party i want to give a holi party i want to organize a big holi party

Why just play Holi with only water and gulal? Just go whacky and get ready to lock and load with flowers, beer, tomatoes and mud.

Flower power
Those who get grossed out at being plastered with rang will love this. Stock up on flower petals as a substitute for colour. Marigold and rose petals are a hot favourite.

Actually playing Holi with flower petals might make you feel like you're part of a B-grade Bollywood dance number. Yet it's good clean fun, with an emphasis on clean. Of course, this sort of Holi party is generally popular with a more 'mature' crowd.

Lock and load
With advances in pichkari technology, everyone’s buying heavy-duty supersoaker guns. These guns, which come in sizes ranging from big and bigger to humongous, can drench a target from a few feet away. In a water fight, these are your best option.

To get the party games started, divide the assembled players into teams - guys verses girls is most fun - to play a paintball-style game. Oh and keep some water balloons handy in case you run out of ammo!

Later, you can cool off with a bit of rain dancing.

Playing dirty
For those with mischief on their minds, there's lots that can be used to make this Holi very, very dirty. Firstly, stock up on pucca colours - the kind that don’t come off for at least a week, no matter how hard you scrub. Gold and silver are a hot favourite now.

Then there's the regular eggs and tomatoes to be kept handy. Make sure the tomatoes are over-ripe and squishy; and remember to crack to the eggs on something harder than a human head first!

More daring, and icky, weapons of Holi destruction include beer and even mud. Over-enthusiastic players are known to convert patches of the garden into mud baths and shove friends into them! If you want to make things really interesting, why not (shudder) add beer to the mud mix?
