Super 30 founder Anand Kumar has hailed the changes effected by IIT Kanpur in the IIT Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) as they bring transparency in the examination system
"These much needed changes will restore students' faith in the examination which has been dogged by controversies since 2006," Anand said here on Sunday.
The math wizard had met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and HRD minister Kapil Sibal last year with his suggestions for reforms in the IIT JEE.
Organizers of the IIT-JEE have announced that candidates appearing in the test this year will be able to see their marked answer books on the JEE website. The answer sheet will be accessible only to a particular candidate through a password. About 4.5 lakh candidates are likely to participate in the JEE examination this year.
"Earlier, only successful students used to receive marks. Now all of them will get it, which will make things more transparent," said Anand who had last year requested Kapil Sibal to give an additional chance to rural students writing IIT-JEE. "I hope the Union HRD minister will also consider this request," he added.
"During my meeting with PM Singh and Sibal, I had also made pleas to them for limiting the conceptual and analytical type questions. I had told them that this would automatically significantly reduce the 'unwarranted' signification of IIT-JEE coaching centers," Anand said.
Anand's other suggestions included publication of the extended merit list within a few days of the IIT-JEE main results, marking of answers in the optical response sheet (ORS) with black pen instead of pencil and publication of solutions to the problems on the website on the exam day in the evening.
"I hope that these suggestions will also find favour with the authorities concerned and the entire IIT-JEE system will be as clean as water," Anand said.
