With the stupendous successes of sequels to hits and blockbusters, the enterprising producers of the Hindi film industry have definitely realized the potential of establishing their successful films as a brand. Although the trend started early enough with Vidhu Vinod Chopra's MUNNABHAI MBBS and GOLMAAL but it's only lately that top stars and producers have started cashing in on the idea of establishing their films as a brand.
Leading from the front is Hrithik Roshan whose sequel to the hit KOI... MIL GAYA, KRRISH was a blockbuster and with KRRISH 2 very much on Hrithik is definitely one of the top stars to get branded.
Following the footsteps of his good friend Hrithik Roshan is Shahrukh Khan who has left no stones unturned in re-establishing Amitabh Bachchan's classic DON as a much popular and successful brand with DON-THE CHASE BEGINS. And now with its sequel, DON 2, which certainly appears bigger, better and more exciting and is definitely poised for a humongous opening when the film releases this Christmas.
If SRK is there can Aamir Khan or Salman Khan be left far behind? Not at all! Salman has already given his green signal to DABANGG 2 which is the sequel to his most successful film till date, DABANGG, and one can easily see that Salman is keen on cashing in on the popularity of DABANGG.
Aamir may not have worked in either of the two DHOOM films; DHOOM and DHOOM 2, but with his name associated with the third edition, DHOOM 3, is certainly threatening to be the most popular and most anticipated film that the audience is already looking forward to in 2012. Aamir himself is a brand but his signing DHOOM 33 establishes the fact that the top stars of the industry are vying with each other to become a part of a successful brand.
The 'Khiladi' may not be going through a very good phase with his films not doing as well as expected but he himself is going to be a part of HOUSEFULL 2 which is the sequel of his only clean hit of 2010, HOUSEFULL. Although Akshay Kumar's HERA PHERI was and is a brand and the follow up (Hindi cinema's first sequel hit!), PHIR HERA PHERI (though not directed by Priyadarshan), did click because of the brand itself.
Well, we are quite sure that with the top five of Bollywood stars getting 'branded' the sequels are poised to become bigger and better.
