Out with all the bulky furniture!
They only close in on your space making it look smaller and less airy. Okay so we know you can't get rid of all of your grandma's antique furniture but you can move some of it (like may be to the storage room or something). Bring in low seating. Mats or thin mattresses with bolsters and cushions make for a chilled out ambience.
Change the colour palette
Pretty drastic, huh? Splash some colour and create a focus wall or just try some floral/ butterfly/ leaf stencils from your local paint store. If home improvement projects and you just don't go together, take the easy route. Pick up a few colourful highlights and accessories from a classy décor store. Funky cushions, a shelf with assorted knick-knacks and handmade dhurries work like a charm!
Dress up your windows
No we don't mean with thick obtrusive drapes. Open up the windows and let the sunshine in. Go light with matted blinds, thin cotton curtains or even beaded curtains. Bright colours like lime green, canary yellow, and citrus orange as well as floral prints will lend a summery touch to your home. Alternatively, you could try deeper coloured curtains with brighter window accents like a coloured glass vase or a flower pot.
Enjoy the outdoors
If you happen to have a garden or a terrace, there's no better time than now to spruce it up. Line your terrace with a variety of plants. Throw in a sunny umbrella, a couple of lounge seats and a hammock. Blow up an inflatable pool and let the kids splash around. There you have it - your very own resort at home!
Take on a DIY project
Put on your apron and get to work. Transform a dull piece of furniture by painting a kitschy design on it. That Godrej cupboard or a 'blah' desk and chair are great candidates for your project. You'll be surprised at what a great focal point you can create and the compliments you will receive!
