Style check Michelle Obama Visit to India,Michelle Obama,Michelle Obama Style check,Michelle Obama Style

US First Lady Michelle Obama is popular for her classic style and her sense of dressing right as the President's wife.

On her two-day visit to India, Michelle Obama changed several outfits but her wardrobe was essentially all-American with long skirts, tailored blouses, jackets and brooch pins. While she kept it real by repeating a few shoes and accessories (we love that about her), we couldn't help notice that some of her clothes desperately called for the ironing board. Perhaps it the jet-setting life that made her overlook the little details.

Check out the turquoise blue creation by American designer Peter Som. While the tailoring is crisp, the dress appears somewhat stiff. May be it would have been more flattering if the hemline was a little higher (knee-length?) or the waist could have done with a belt.

Michelle Obama wore a sober grey outfit when she arrived in Mumbai. We love how the soft fabric of her dress falls on her toned frame and clever pairing of the front buttons with her fluid hemline. The pearls complete the look. (Please note that the she does a repeat with the metallic, kitten-heeled shoes).

Moving onto Michelle Obama's day out with under privileged children, we finally get a peek into her fun-loving personality. She shakes a leg in an elegant, black and white checked dress teamed with a pink jacket. Michelle plays hopscotch and the tambourine with children from an NGO. We love her spirit but have serious reservations about pairing that sand brown blouse with scallop prints with a long, floral skirt from J Crew.
The first lady wore the same black and white checked dress with a matching jacket while saying her good byes to Mumbai. The same dress looks somewhat bulky when paired with that jacket.

On her visit to Rajghat, Michelle paired a lovely, diffused print skirt with a black blouse. The outfit is tres elegant. At a dinner hosted for the Obama's Michelle finally wore a creation by Indian designer Naeem Khan. The slight slouch of the shoulders of the gorgeous jacket is not in keeping with her signature style of sharp fits and tailored garments.

Most Indian designers wondered why she didn't wear a sari and more colour during the festive season of Diwali. Fashion designer Kavita Bhartiya said in an interview to IANS, "She could have worn something more colourful, something in keeping with the festive mood since it was the Diwali season. What she wore was so simple and elegant... may be she just wanted to be official and correct."

Do you think Michelle Obama would have fared better if she added an ethnic touch to her wardrobe or worn a sari? Leave us a comment and let us know.
