Vivek Oberoi and Suriya may be playing foes on screen in their next week's release RAKHT CHARITRA 2. However, in real life, they go back a long way and share a bond ever since then. It was during the shooting of YUVA, a blingual by Mani Ratnam, where the two were introduced to each other first. While Vivek featured in the Hindi version, Suriya was a part of the Tamil version. Ever since then, the two have been in touch even though half a decade has gone by.
"Vivek is attached to South since he has relatives down there", recollects Suriya, "Due to this, when we were shooting for YUVA, I also visited the place of some of his relative since he insisted. Those were the times when I was about to get married to Jo (actress Jyothika). It was nice to sit in Chennai and chat with an actor from Hindi films who had connections in South as well."
Suriya stays on to be quite impressed with the manner in which Vivek had extended a helping hand to provide relief to Tsunami victims in South.
"I still remember that when most out there were just talking about the aftermath of the flood and how it would destroy so many lives, Vivek was one of the few celebrities who actually got into some action", he says fondly, "He led from the front and spent so much time to be there on the spot and give his personal attention to make things happen. I guess this is what makes him a superb human being."
With such friendship and regard for each other off the screen, it would be pretty interesting to see how the camaraderie takes a reverse gear on screen with Ram Gopal Varma pitting the duo against each other. |
