This film like so many in the Hollywood deals with unexplained and apparently very popular phenomenon of people returning to their loved ones. The actors do a surprisingly good job even if they aren't perhaps the best people for the job, however Anne Hathaway's McGuffins are not enough to overshadow the lack of plot, slow pace, poor direction and horribly cheesy writing.
Interestingly, nobody I watched the movie with seemed to be bothered by the fact that the main guy is just that... a guy and very, very much not unlike someone you might meet at the Walmart complaints window.
To make things even worse, the sound designer opted for outfitting "Love and Other Drugs" with a cheaply produced "melodramatic" soundtrack. You know what i'm talking about, cheap synthesizer chords underlined with some wannabe "deep" guitar solo. Shudder. This is pulp Bollywood melodrama gone Hollywood.
