Anurag Kashyap was involved in an encounter! Well no we are not talking about the shoot out encounter, but something close to that. It is learnt that Nana Patekar, who will be seen in the upcoming film SHAGIRD with Nana Patekar, has actually met the famous encounter specialist Rajbeer Singh, from whom Nana's character is inspired, before his tragic demise.
SHAGIRD is a cop film where Nana Patekar plays the role of ACP Hanumant Singh which is said to be the character sketch of well-known encounter specialist Rajbir Singh. Incidentally, Anurag Kashyap, who plays the villain in the movie, met Rajbir Singh some years back and was very inspired and awestruck with his heroism and valor.
ANURAG KASHYAP and NANA PATEKAR in SHAGIRD |
Singh, who had joined Delhi Police as a Sub-Inspector in 1982, had 56 encounter killings to his name. A winner of five medals, including the President's Police Medal for Gallantry, Singh was involved in the investigations into the Parliament and Red Fort attack cases. Meeting the brave man himself helped Anurag years later, when he helped defining the character of the encounter specialist to Nana Patekar who will be stepping into his shoes. Sources tell us that Anurag would tell stories about Rajbir and narrate his style and demeanor to Nana, this helped Nana to get into the skin of his character seamlessly.
Anurag Kashyap who is best known as a director and for his cameo roles will be seen in a full-fledged role for the first time in SHAGIRD and having an experience to share, guess he becomes a mentor too. Now this is what we call a perfect encounter!
Tigmanshu says, "Yes am aware that Anurag Kashyap had earlier met few cops from crime branch of Delhi including Rajbir Singh. But that was much before our shooting of film and not in connection with our film. Nana Patekar plays ACP Hanumant Singh in the film. We did lot of our research for this character. His character has a lot of nuances of Delhi police."
SHAGIRD is slated to release on 13th May 2011.
