There have been many films that have seen successful sequels in Bollywood. DHOOM 2, KRRISH, PHIR HERA PHERI and LAGEY RAHO MUNNABHAI have all been far more successful than their predecessors. However, GOLMAAL 3 is the only film which has actually gone into the third instalment. Not just that, it has now exceeded the sum total of GOLMAAL and GOLMAAL RETURNS to turn into the biggest Bollywood franchise of all times.
Despite a huge opening of over 60 crores in the Diwali week, GOLMAAL 3 has hung on tremendously well at the box office and is now fast marching towards the 100 crores milestone with 90 crores already in its kitty. All of this also means that this multistarrer by Rohit Shetty is now clearly the second biggest success of the year after DABANGG (hence leaving RAAJNEETI behind) and has only made one look at TEES MAAR KHAN with added anticipation to surpass the landmark.
Success of this second sequel only leads one to a question which is - 'How far would the third instalment of Rajkumar Hirani's MUNNABHAI go at the box office?'
One is tempted to say - 'A lot ahead'. Reason being that the market has become immensely huge while there is also a tremendous brand recall value associated with MUNNABHAI series. Moreover, there is immense respect that the name Rajkumar Hirani commands amongst the audience which means huge footfalls are pretty much assured as and when the Sanjay Dutt-Arshad Warsi enterprise hits the screens.
All credit to GOLMAAL 3 for making it big but competition is going to be immense for sure once MUNNABHAI 3 arrives. There are indeed exciting times ahead!
