With millions of employees facing open enrollment deadlines for their health care plans at work, here are some helpful websites:
California Department of Insurance – Health insurance details, including comparison charts, links to providers, definitions/glossary, complaint forms. Search under "Consumers" at www.insurance.ca.gov.
California Department of Managed Health Care – Consumer-friendly site covers all the health care basics: terms, tips, comparisons, plus ratings of health insurers and medical groups. Go to www.hmohelp.ca.gov or call (888) 466-2219.
California Healthcare Foundation – The nonprofit has a free resource, "Guide to Health Programs," in English/Spanish that covers health-related programs for low-income families. Search under "Consumers" at www.chcf.org.
HealthCoverageGuide.org – Small businesses considering employee health coverage can find cost estimates, tax savings and advice, sponsored by California Healthcare Foundation.
