Nintendo Files for “It’s On Like Donkey Kong” Trademark
It wasn’t too long ago that we told you about the return of everyone’s favorite ape, Donkey Kong, in the upcoming title Donkey Kong Country Returns. As you can probably imagine, Nintendo is pretty excited about the game, and in their excitement, they’ve moved forward with a trademark application to grab one of the world’s most catchy phrases.
Nintendo has made it clear today that the company has filed a trademark application for “It’s on like Donkey Kong.” The reason? They are trying to coin the term “in honor of the upcoming Nov. 21 launch” of Donkey Kong Country Returns. The result would be that only Nintendo would be able to use the phrase, and only in the marketing of the upcoming title.
Nintendo feels like it’s an age-old saying at this point, and that it truly idolizes the way that gamers feel about their games. Their passion. They also believe that it has a number of different interpretations, depending on the situation you find yourself in, when you scream it out at the top of your lungs. We just wish Nintendo had thought of this earlier, and had managed to get the trademark before the official release of the game — it would be pretty awesome to see that be the tag-line of the game.
