Deadline.com reports executives at Sony Pictures have met with a laundry list of acting hopefuls vying to follow in Depp's footsteps. The actor played Officer Tom Hanson in 76 episodes of the TV series between 1987 and 1990.
And Step Up star Tatum is reportedly at the top of the list to join Hill as one-half of the undercover police duo fighting crime in high schools.
Hill, who is also writing the screenplay, recently revealed he has also written a part for Depp in the film - and is reaching out to the superstar to persuade him to spend a day on set.
