5 Reasons Diwali will Help You Lose Weight

So the most popular festival is here. It is time for ghee-laden mithai, yummy kachoris, bhujiyas, crackers and exchanging loads of gifts. But how do you escape those extra pounds that you'll pile on this holiday season? Worry not! Here are five ways to fight the flab while making the most of Diwali
Cleaning the House
Diwali means cleaning; dusting, sweeping, moving around furniture and more. The house always gets spruced up before the day of the festivities and guests come over. Sounds like a lot of work? Don't nod and sigh. These chores will help you lose weight. 30 minutes of sweeping burns up to 165 calories and dusting for about 30 minutes burns 164!

Don't forget other things that need to be done like changing the drapes, moving furniture around, and putting up decorations. These add up to the calories burnt too.

Slaving over Food
Cooking for Diwali is no mean task. The preparations begin three days before the festivities. Mithai like halwas, laddoos and gujiya have to be prepared from scratch. And during Diwali, you plan a feast for your family and friends almost everyday. Dals, rotis, kachoris, cutlets… the list is endless! An average person burns 140 calories in an hour of cooking. Imagine the amount of flab you'll lose with all that cooking!

Dancing
If you are not the type who would play poker, simply gather your friends and family for a Diwali party. Put on some peppy Bollywood numbers and groove to them. What better way to bond with your family than dance to evergreen numbers from movies like Kabhie Khushi Kabhie Gham and Hum Aapke Hai Kaun? Dancing for 30 minutes burns up to 180 calories.

Shopping
Another important part of Diwali is shopping. Shop for gifts, shop for new clothes, diyas, lights, home decorations, crackers and more. This means hopping from one shop to another, bargaining for the right price and of course carrying lot of bags around! Shopping for 30 minutes burns approximately 45 calories. Now you did not think something as joyous as that could help you burn fat, no?

Eating Sensibly
With all the mithai and oily treats around, we are bound to give the diet a miss and indulge ourselves. Not to forget, visiting relatives could mean that you end up over-eating. But, you don't want all the effort you put into that power yoga class to go for a toss, do you? So, instead of stuffing a whole piece of mithai every time you are offered some, get someone to share it with you. Drink loads of water and opt for grilled instead of fried snacks. Lastly, have a fruit or a small salad before you step out for dinner, so that you don't' end up eating more than you ought to.

With these tips in mind, you can keep that holiday weight at bay and can slip right back into your sexy party dress by New Years!
