The Mumbai High Court today delivered a thumping verdict in favour of UTV in the ongoing title case for THANK YOU against the Fisheye Networks Ltd, owned by Pooja Bhatt and her husband Munish Makhija. The High Court observed that there is no copyright in a mere title and that no case has been made out that Fisheye has acquired any goodwill or reputation in the use of the title. DSK Legal led by its managing partner, Anand Desai, advised and represented UTV.

Producer- director and daughter of veteran director Mahesh Bhatt, Pooja Bhatt had filed a case against UTV, the makers of the film THANK YOU, claiming that she had registered the title with Association of Motion Picture and TV Programming Producers (AMPTPP). UTV had registered the title with Indian Motion Picture Producers Association (IMPAA) in 2008. When a dispute arose, it was firmly settled by the Film Maker's Combine, confirming that the title is with UTV. All required registration documents and correspondence with FMC and IMPPA supplement UTV's ownership in the title. THANK YOU is complete and has even got censor certification and is due for release on April 8th while Fisheye Networks has not even announced any project for which they are claiming the title. Despite this, Fisheye Networks went ahead and filed a case in the High Court. Producers of the film strongly feel that this entire issue cropped up solely due to miscommunication between the film associations.

THANK YOU, a romantic comedy, directed by Anees Bazmee and produced by UTV Motion Pictures, is scheduled to release on April 8th. The film stars Akshay Kumar, Irrfan Khan, Suniel Shetty, Bobby Deol, Sonam Kapoor, Celina Jaitley and Rimi Sen.
