5 kg fibroid removed from the uterus of a woman

BANGALORE: A five kg fibroid was successfuly removed from the uterus of a woman by a team of doctors at a city hospital.

The patient, a 45-year-old homemaker approached Vagus Superspeciality hospital with complaints of generalized weakness, anemia, breathlessness and heavy bleeding during periods. Physical examination, MRI and ultrasound scan revealed fibroid in the uterus, a hospital press release said.

A team of doctors performed the surgery for over one and half hours to remove the fibroid. The patient is now recovering

Fibroids are benign tumours usually seen in reproductive age group. It occurs rarely in infants and children. Doctors said a tumour of this size was rare - about one in one lakh population.
