Forevermark CEO Stephen Lussier and Rani Mukerji with the Ying Yang diamonds At Diamond Launch Rani Demands Engagement Ring

"The next diamond I get has to be an engagement ring," said Rani Mukerji before she unveiled two 35-carat diamonds - the largest identical diamonds in the world.

Was she sending a certain producer a hint? Maybe, maybe not.

Rani, who helped De Beers Group's Forevermark diamond brand announce its arrival in Mumbai on Monday,  then coyly refused to reveal who she would like that diamond engagement ring from. Instead, she helped Forevermark CEO Stephen Lussier show off the Rs. 2 coin-size Steinmetz Yin Yang diamonds. The D flawless diamonds, mined in South Africa, are an example of the high-quality diamonds the De Beers-owned diamond brand has brought to India. According to Lissier, only 1 per cent of the world's diamonds pass the Forevermark quality test for colour and clarity.

Forevermark will partner with Anmol Jewellers, Giantti, Mahesh Notandas, Notandas & Sons, Manubhai Jewellers, Mehta Emporium, Orra, Rose and TBZ in Mumbai and will provide flawless diamonds, and in some cases, design expertise. "We have two main criteria in selecting jewellers to partner with - passion and integrity. We hand pick jewellers that pass all our tests and also provide a certain [luxurious] experience in-store," said Binita Cooper, MD Forevermark.

During couture week last year, Rani was spotted wearing the 7.3 carat diamond ring haatphool by the brand, and Forevermark has also brought a stunning 19,196 diamond necklace, designed by British supermodel Alek Wek here.

Forevermark has already launched in Bangalore in partnership with Abaran, C Krishniah Chetty & Sons and Joyalluka's, where on the opening day, a customer snapped up a 53-diamond necklace, Cooper said.

According to Lussier, India will be one of Forevermark's three most important markets, behind the United States and China, by mid-decade.

Forevermark will launch in Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kolkata soon.
