The iconic song Kajra Mohabbatwala, from the movie KISMET (1968) directed by Manmohan Desai and performed by Babita and Biswajeet, has been recreated once more on screen. The music of the film was given by O.P Nayyar.
This song gained cult status not just for its song but also because this was first time on Indian screen when a male performed as a female and a female performed as a male in a song. It is one of the biggest hit songs of all times. In fact, it became so popular that it was adopted many times by others.
In a slew, of remixes, like Dum Maro Dum, Janab - e - Ali, Mehbooba, TANU WEDS MANU comes as a lease of fresh breath, as the song has not been remixed in the film and the song has been picturised on the original track.
The song immortalised by Shamsad Begum and Asha Bhonsale, will now see Kangana Ranaut dancing to their tunes. Kangna plays Babita's role in the song, and is a boy in it.
The makers, Viacom 18 Motion Pictures, have acquired the rights from HMV of the song. Says director Aanand Rai, 'Yes we have acquired the rights of the song Kajra Mohabbatwala. It is one of my favourite sequences from the film, and Kangna has done a stupendous job in it. The song is iconic and we are very excited to have the original version in TANU WEDS MANU. The song is perfect for the essence of the film.' |
