How to Be a Good Kisser

From that very first crush or first date, every person wonders whether or not they will be a good kisser. There's so much importance attached to that first kiss. In fact, studies show that men use the first kiss to judge their partner's fertility (really?) while women use the first kiss to determine whether the guy's a keeper (cool huh?). Well, either way it's important to do it right. So here are a few secrets to become a good kisser.

Get the timing right: It's all about timing, especially the first few times you are with someone new. Make sure to get the moment right or you just might blow it. A romantic setting, a little less conversation, gazing into your partner's eyes and holding hands are great preludes to the perfect kiss. Also, you might want to reserve a more intimate mouth-on-mouth kiss to the second or third date. Finish up your first date with a peck on the cheek.

Make sure you smell and taste good: No one wants to kiss someone who smells and tastes bad. So make sure to avoid foods that cause bad breath like garlic, onions, dairy et al before a kiss. Also ensure that you've used the right amount of perfume; too much or too little can be a turn off. Use a flavoured lip balm so your lips are moist and sweet.

Close your eyes: When you move in for a kiss, make sure to close your eyes. It shows you want to be intimate with your partner and aren't just going through the motions. What's more, didn't anyone tell you it's rude to stare more so while kissing?

Know that every individual has different preferences: Treat your partner as an individual. Just because your ex preferred French kissing to lip action, doesn't mean your new squeeze will too. Be willing to discover your partner's likes and dislikes and adapt to his preferences.

Don't leave your hands idle: Using your hands to communicate means connecting with your partner and is just as important as the kiss itself. So instead of letting your hands hang loosely, try running your fingers slowly through your partner's hair or hold him around the neck.
