FALTU Movie Review

Rating - 3/5

Like a headline is to a newspaper report, a title is to a film. You all will agree that F.A.L.T.U. is a very attractive title. It's a different thing whether you like it or not. But it surely catches your attention. Also, the song Char baj gaye lekin party abhi baki hai from the film has become a sensation, particularly among the youth.

Following the path of films like TAARE ZAAMEEN PAR and 3 IDIOTS, F.A.L.T.U. takes on the education system. Being inspired from the 2006 film ACCEPTED, it's about four college friends - Ritesh (Jackky Bahagnani), Pooja (Puja Gupta), Vishnu (Chandan Roy Sanyal) and Nanj (Angad Bedi), who just want to enjoy life. Ritesh even turns up late for his last exam as he was busy packing for his Goa trip. And when the results come out, Ritesh, Pooja and Nanj have just about managed to pass their exams, failing to get admission in any college. So, with the help of Vishnu, they start a fake institution named Fakirchand and Lakirchand Trust University or F.A.L.T.U. to bring a smile on their parents' faces. They create a website and give a newspaper advertisement of the institute so that it looks authentic. With the help of kindhearted Google Chand (Arshad Warsi) they even get a place in Panchgani and a young principal named Baaji Rao (Riteish Deshmukh) for the institute. Trouble arises when students actually turn up at F.A.L.T.U..

F.A.L.T.U. begins impressively with a fun animated title sequence. And it is followed by the characters' college life which makes you smile and reminds of your own college days. The narrative moves smoothly in the first half which is full of energy. Its post the interval, that the graph dips and the proceedings become humdrum for a while. Debutant director Remo D'Souza then charms you with his choreography skills with an amazing song in the climax which sums up the entire film beautifully. It's hard not to shed a tear or two during the song.

The film propagates that being excellent in studies in not the only thing. It's more important to study what you like. It also gives the tip to make your hobby your profession. It makes you realise the importance of people. These are the things which surely make you think.

Jigar and Sachin's music is excellent and goes well with the film. Char baj gaye lekin party abhi baki hai is undoubtedly the best track. Vijay Arora's cinematography is nice.

Jackky Bhagnani puts up a confident act. Debutante Puja Gupta is passable and needs to polish her acting skills. Arshad Warsi is hilarious. Riteish Deshmukh is good. Chandan Roy Sanyal impresses yet again after KAMINEY with a superb performance. Angad Bedi is okay in his debut film. Darshan Jariwala is fine.

F.A.L.T.U. is a sincere attempt which asks the right questions about our education system. And yes, it's not at all F.A.L.T.U..
