Ganpatiphule is a tiny, sleepy village Travel Diaries A Peaceful Getaway at Ganpatiphule travel spot for family Ganpatiphule

Christmas and New Year's always end up being busy holidays. So after all the end of the year work and spending time with relatives and friends over the first week of the New Year, mom and I headed out for a quiet weekend getaway to Ganpatiphule. And a quiet weekend it was!

All we did was simply lounge around the beach. On the morning of Jan 8, we boarded the Mandovi express from CST at 7.30 in the morning and reached Ratnagiri at two in the afternoon. From there, Ganpatiphule was an hour's ride in a rickety ST bus. We then checked into a MTDC cottage by the beach.

Ganpatiphule is a tiny, sleepy village. It is a good place to do some jaywalking (but don't go by me!), lose sense of time and zone out. The first evening was spent watching the sunset at the beach. Again it was serene, beautiful and clean. And going by the time, the water was a deep ink blue. We then dug into some really sumptuous prawn curry and rice (mom and I love sea food).

The next morning I woke up in time for sunrise (I usually never wake up early for anything). And it was worth sacrificing some more ZZZZs for the sunrise. Mom joined me later for breakfast. The rest of the morning was spent following crabs around the beach. It was amazing to see tiny crabs find their way from their holes to the sea. We then stepped out for lunch (a fish thali this time) at a local restaurant.

What I loved about this li'l trip was there was never much to do. It gave us so much time to simply chat with each other. And that was so much fun. My mom loves beaches too. So we absolutely had no qualms being near the sea morning, afternoon and evening. Being early January, the weather was perfect too- not to cold, not too hot.

If all you are looking for is some quality time with someone special - mom, sister, spouse, or even best friend; head to this beach resort. It is a great place to go with a bunch of friends or you could make it a family trip too. That is what makes any holiday versatile, just the way you want it to be.
