Here's how you can balance your work and social life with élan.
Pre plan your week
Jot down birthday parties, weddings and other engagements into a weekly planner. A quick scan of your planner will help you adjust work with your after-work plans. Stay back late on days that aren't dotted with social commitments to get work done so that you can leave early on days that do. Also, getting to office an hour early means you can leave early and avoid rush-hour traffic.
Take smart work breaks
Use the memo app on your phone to set reminders to wish a relative in the middle of a working day or send out e-invites for your friend's baby shower. If you're stepping out for lunch, stop off at a nearby mall to pick up a last-minute gift or outfit. And as far as possible, schedule outdoor meetings for after 4pm. This way, once the meeting is done you can head straight to that party!
Ditch the unnecessary
You have a friend's bachelorette party and your colleague's wedding on the same day. But you aren't superwoman and you can't be at two places at once, so you've got to pick. Choose only the important events on your calendar and ditch the rest. While we're at it, unless you are gunning for 27 dresses, you don't need to agree to be everybody's bridesmaid!
Shop in advance
Before the weekend arrives, make your shopping list for the week ahead. Whether it's gifts, clothes or party supplies, weekend afternoons are a more relaxed time to shop. You don't have to dodge too many people as the crowds come out later. Besides, a marathon shopping spree will cover most of the stuff on your year-end shopping list.
Free up your Sundays
Playing the social butterfly can really leave you zapped. That's why you need a day to pamper yourself. Simply sleep in or indulge in a foot spa and you'll feel invigorated for work the next day. Plus, making 'me' time for yourself is a great way to keep the festivities from getting to you and eventually turning you into a party pooper!
