Salman Khan is known for launching new girls or reviving the career of those who have been off the scene for a while. In recent times, Sonakhi Sinha, Zarine Khan or Ayesha Takia won't agree lesser. Shah Rukh Khan too has done his bit for Deepika Padukone and Anushka Sharma. Even Akshay Kumar hasn't shied away from spotting talent in Katrina Kaif, Priyanka Chopra & Lara Dutta and has worked in multiple films with them.
However, when it comes to Aamir Khan, one can't remember the last time when he launched a new girl from Bollywood or worked with someone who was more or less down and out. No wonder, when someone like Monica Dogra, a complete outsider, makes an entry into Bollywood, one can well expect her to make the best of the opportunity. This is the reason why, despite spending most of her life in New York, it is Bollywood calling for Monica for next few years at the least.
After all the fame and adulation that she is witnessing from the peripherals could well become an integral part of her day to day life if DHOBI GHAT goes on to strike gold.
"Well, I am open to reading scripts and performing roles that would suit me", says Monica thoughtfully, "The story ideas should be such which I believe in, so yes a major criterion is that the right things should come along. I hope though that this would happen because I am assured that on its release, DHOBI GHAT would have a very powerful presence in India which means that I would be noticed for sure. After that, if people indeed like what I have done, I would be glad to stay on and expand my horizon."
Also starring Prateik Babbar and Kriti Malhotra in principal roles along with Kitu Gidwani and Nafisa Khan, DHOBI GHAT sees a theatrical release in India on 21st January. |
