An Iranian director is competing at the Berlin film festival with a portrayal of a disintegrating marriage that highlights a clash between traditional and modern ways of thinking.
Asghar Farhadi's Nader and Simin  A Separation" screened on Tuesday. Farhadi was honored as best director in Berlin two years ago for his movie "About Elly."
The film at this year's festival chronicles a wife's unsuccessful petition for a divorce after her husband refuses to leave behind his father, who suffers from Alzheimer's, and leave Iran with her and their daughter.
The wife then moves out and the husband hires a pious young woman to care for his father — setting in motion a chain of events that shakes the family.
